PEDERSON POINT - Spring
and Summer 2003 DVD Documentary
The movie is a dense comprehensive
journey throughout everything that makes Pederson Point what it is. It
portrays not only the complete process of herring and salmon seasons,
but it also embraces its surrounding environment, people, and wildlife;
it interviews fishermen and processors, and it shows lots of fun, behind
the scenes footage. It is dedicated to the memory Va.

Felt like I visited Alaska. Loved "meeting"
people in the credits. Great music. |
Needs more gore. |
I watched Petr put together the documentary
for almost a year and I have to say he put a lot of blood, sweat, and
tears into that documentary. So, I'll give him a 10 for effort. But I
will have to give the documentary a 1 for all the nights Petr was too
tired to have sex after long sessions of editing and putting together
clips. I think the documentary had a good flow, the audio could use improvement,
and I'm not crazy about the high speed voices! I was entertained as well
as educated (I now know more about dead fish than I have ever cared too).
Overall I give this documentary an 8, I just hope Petr doesn't decide
to make a smellovision version.

Techinally the two highlights of this film are
the soundtrack and the blend of video and stills. The carefully picked
tunes help progress the documentary from one location to the next without
distracting from the narration. The soundtrack also serves to seamlessly
transition between the video and still photos, giving the photos fluidity
they would not have had otherwise.
After watching twice the film gives me a fair idea of how PPT operated,
both in work and at play. While the scenes of drinking and having fun
were a pleasure to watch i sometimes felt that they were out of context.
Who were these people? What were there specific jobs and how did that
job change what they did out of work? I think that the interview with
Julie (fish grader) gave a good example of how PPT can effect the body
and mind. Since I hold Petr to a high standard I will give this film a
7 - it is worth every minute of your time but I expect future productions
of Petr's to surpass this one.
